Voice Starters: Info
The first category of vocal exercises, called voice starters, are designed to either get your voice ready to sing if you haven’t sung yet, or to help relax your voice if you’re feeling vocally fatigued.
These voice starters should be sung with a speech-like tone at a low to medium volume and should be treated like a light dynamic stretch! If you aren’t feeling a stretch, you aren’t getting one, so focus on stretching to the highest and lowest points possible without changing or compromising your technique!
For each voice starter, make sure you aren’t straining, increasing volume, or lifting or depressing your chin at any point regardless of range. Focus on maintaining consistent breath pressure using the "Breathe Hold Sing" technique. We recommend a minimum of 10 seconds on each voice starter to get you fully warmed up and ready to sing.
THE POINT:
Increasing blood flow to the muscles associated with singing
Increased range of motion (ease of access to all parts of your range)
Preloading correct muscle memory for singing
